*not fond of making fondant

In less than eight hours or so we will have Baker Extraordinaire in the house!  Mary likes to bake and has made some amazing cakes, some I have only seen.  Since Henry loves to watch "Ace of Cakes" on Food Network and has a flair for cooking, I asked Mary if she would be interested in doing a bake off with Henry while they are visiting. She said yes.

In order to make this run a bit smoother I decided to go ahead and make the fondant (Mary told me the "stuff" from the stores is NASTY -it ruined one of her cakes actually).  So, I found a recipe. How about it calls for stuff I can't even pronounce?  Today I stopped at every store in town that carries cake supplies, which is quite a lot actually. When I did not find it at the last stop, I decided it was time to look for a simpler recipe. Mary had mentioned one that uses marshmallow and powdered sugar.  Sure enough, I found the one she was speaking of.

Making the fondant was easy enough, wait- let me note that I worked up a sweat making this fondant. Let me also note that I am in my mid forties. Enough said.  The end product is pretty tasty, not disgusting at all. If you are interested in the recipe you can find it HERE. There are only 3 ingredients as opposed to a list of seven ingredients.  Marshmallows, powdered sugar and water but you also need Crisco to knead the fondant.

I can hardly wait to see what the two of them will come up with!  Mostly I am excited about the memories they will be making on this visit.

Just melted marshmallows and now adding the powdered sugar. Um.. why did I mop the kitchen this morning? Poor planning.
This last part was the most fun. It felt like silk.
On a side  note.. the phlebotomist LOVE my veins!
