*hints of fall

There is this one thing I am know for, well there may be more than one thing.. but in the Hawkins family (my BFF's Family) they know that come August this girl will be pulling out her fall decor.  It could be an early cool August, or a long hot summer August - either way I get a bit antsy and start pulling the beautiful autumn colors into our home with my fall decorations.  I do love each season in it's due time, but I think fall is my favorite!

We have already had a week or so of high 50's and low 60's night weather, bring a crisp morning as a bonus!  It has been picturesque to sit in a rocker on the front porch, watching the sun rise while sipping on a cup of coffee in the cool weather.

Baking has been on my things to do list for a few days now, so I gave myself to it! Fall invites such things right? Who wants to heat up the kitchen in the middle of the summer? Eat heavy foods when it is so hot outside? So, to day with Fall in my heart, I baked some tasty pumpkin muffins and several loaves of beer bread. I also dreamed my way though a Taste of Home Soup Recipe Magazine, marking many soup recipes that will be tried out in our kitchen soon!

Isn't this pumpkin muffin adorable? A little of the mix some how was slopped out and when the muffins came out of the oven, this one looked like a pumpkin stem. Cute!

Happy Fall Ya'll!

  1. Hi Lynnie, thanks for stopping by my blog.

To answer your question about garlic....do you have a farmers market or a place where you can buy locally grown produce near you? That is where I would start looking. If you can talk to the actual grower, they can give you recomendations for garlic that would do well in your area as well as help you figure out what type of garlic would best meet your needs (i.e. do you like to cook with your garlic? Are you looking for a mild garlic for eating raw? Are you looking for a good keeper? etc.)

I would avoid buying it from a grocery store to plant. You won't know what kind of garlic it is, or if it will do well in your area.

If you can't find a local source, you can get them mail order, but if you do order your garlic through the mail, you'll need to do it as soon as possible as most companies will only ship through October. Here is one company I have ordered from and who generally has high quality products: http://www.territorialseed.com/prod_detail_list/garlic_

    I hope this info helps.

The little pumpkin cupcake is adorable! I made some pumpkin muffins earlier this week. Pumpkins are one of my favorite things about fall!

  2. Kateri! Thanks so much, we just made our order via Territorial Seed.com. There is a little stand locally that sells garlic in early spring and I will talk to them, but as I perused the website you recommended it stated that many sell out soon, so we went ahead and ordered. We use a lot of garlic in our cooking and want to plant our own! Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question!

  3. We love fall too and are hoping we have a fall season here in LA (Lower Alabama); I can't remember what fall was like here when we were here 21 years ago! I LOVE Taste of Home recipes because they always "turn out"!

Fall looks beautiful at your house ~ and tasty! Happy Fall Lynnie!

  6. I've been making chili here! I love chili but it's such a Fall/Winter food, so this is the first we've had it for many months! I love just about anything pumpkin too! Can't wait for pumpkin pie, muffins and stew!
